hey everyone,

i've just finished an online programme called mood gym

there are 5 modules, feelings module, thoughts module, distressing and so on. the idea is to collect the results from the diffrent activities and quizzes, and then also learn new stuff too. the programme is designed for people that are suffering with depression and anxiety to test your levels. i hope i've explained this well, and if not feel free to respond with any questions

to find it, just go to google search and type in mood gym

it's right at the top,

enjoy

Interesting...Is it very expensive? Is it fully accessible?

My questions as well, brandi. And do you complete the modules in order, or just anyway you like to? I tend to like ordered things best.

Can you take it if you don't suffer from depression and/or anxiety and if you just want to learn about yourself?

I'd imagine so, but truthfully, you shouldn't need a test to "teach" you about yourself. just sayin'.

I'm not saying teach you the basics. i should hope that most people already know those. It's just that it may shed some light on other things or make you think about things that wouldn't have crossed your mind without taking it.

that's what I was referring to, and I stand by what I said.

I just tried this out for the heck of it, and I don't like it. I went through the first three modules. The site uses characters to try and illustrate the healthy vs. unhealthy ways of thinking and feeling. the problem is that the characters are so incredibly cut and dried that they go to extremes. One character, Elle, is so negative I wanted to put her out of her misery, another, Noproblemos, was so positive I also wanted to shoot him. Idea being that no one is usually that negative, or that positive, but somewhere in between, so I don't think these characters are accurate demonstrations of real people.

The quizzes are okay, but again, they only tell you things like, "You may be experiencing higher levels of depression or anxiety than the average person your age." Duh. I'm guessing most people have the sense to know whether their feelings are more or less than the average person.

This is going to sound really arrogant, but maybe part of the problem is my education. I'm no licensed counselor, far from it. I have my own issues. But I do have a Bachelor's degree in counseling psychology. To me, this site looks like child's play. But even if it didn't for myself, again, I find the methods it uses to be so extreme that I'm not sure how helpful it would be. But, to each their own. If people find this site helpful, then more power to its creators.

I believe this is affiliated with the Reach Out! site for teens in some way. They do have a bunch of informative articles that I know I enjoyed reading when I was younger. I think I remember there being a lot of talk about this Mood Gym on that site which is why I'm thinking they're connected.

yes, you can take it if you don't suffer from depression- but to be honest, i don't think it would work the same for you and would be pretty pointless

thanks for your reply alicia. i actually thought that was the best part, really made it easy to understand
